The Etiquette of Using Someone Else’s Bidet (Yup, There Are Rules)

Image

But when it comes to a pal with a free-standing bidet—which is an intimate washbasin for one’s private parts—are you allowed to use it freely? Or should you ask before squatting? To bidet or not to bidet, that is the question of 2022! Yup, bidet etiquette is a thing now, thanks to the growing interest in this home accessory. Back in the day, folks had to head to Europe to find and use a bidet. But it saw a huge uptick in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic when toilet paper was hard to find on store shelves. “We’ve seen increased consumer awareness of bidets within the last two years,” reports Ali Wangard, channel manager at Kohler. And brokers who follow the trend agree the bidet is riding a wave and will end up in many future homes. “Bidets are more hygienic, better for the environment since far less toilet paper is used, and t

New residential sales fall in April as home prices, mortgage rates continue to climb

Image
best bienes realtor U.S. new-home sales plunged in April as continued increases in home prices and interest rates priced out many would-be homebuyers.  The rate of new single-family home sales fell 16.6% from March’s revised number to a seasonally adjusted, annual rate of 591,000, while the median sales price jumped to $450,600 from March’s revised median house price of $435,000, the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development reported.      On a year-over-year basis, the pace of new-home sales in April was down 26.9%.    “New-home prices show their ‘downside stickiness,’” First American deputy chief economist Odeta Kushi said in a press release. “Prices climbed nearly 20% on a year-over-year basis and reached a record high, despite the decline in sales.”  The seasonally adjusted estimate of new homes for sale at the end of April was 444,000, representing a supply of 9 months at the current sales rate, according to a press release. In March, the

California Dreamin’ No More: The State’s Housing Hot Streak Is Over—See the New Paradise Taking Its Place

Image
agent top miami real Getty Images California has long reigned supreme as a highly desirable place to live, blessed with gorgeous weather, a bustling job market, beaches, and natural beauty that make it a veritable paradise. Year after year, it owned most of the nation’s hottest housing markets. But now, it seems that America’s torrid, long-term West Coast real estate love affair might finally be ending. That’s what the Realtor.com® 20 Hottest Markets rankings show for April, which factor in a combination of demand (measured by the number of unique views per home listing) and how quickly homes are selling (measured by the number of days on the market). For the first time in the history of these monthly rankings—which began in 2016—California has dropped off the list and is nowhere to be found. It’s hard to imagine that a mere four months earlier, in January, California was still sitting pretty with five metros in the top 20 hottest markets. (Metros include the central city and the

The Housing Market Is Showing Signs of a Correction: What This Means for Buyers and Sellers

Image
agent top miami real Realtor.com / Getty Images Cracks are beginning to appear in the red-hot housing market. Spiraling mortgage rates on top of record-high and still-rising home prices are leading many experts to predict the real estate market is on the verge of a correction—if it isn’t already in one. They anticipate home prices will flatten, or even go down a bit, in certain markets. Home sales have already been dropping; fewer buyers are seeking mortgages because they can’t afford the double whammy of high prices and rates on top of soaring inflation. Real estate agents are reporting smaller bidding wars and sellers cutting prices. Prices have even begun falling in a few parts of the country. “A housing correction has begun,” says Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics. “There are a growing number of cracks in the housing market, and they’re going to turn into fissures and fault lines in the coming months.” Median home list prices in America hit a new high of $42

It’s little surprise that, after two-plus years of living through a grueling, global pandemic, many Americans are chomping at the bit to trade quarantine lockdowns for cool, seaside breezes; back-to-office dreariness for sun and surf euphoria; and homemade sourdough for fresh fish tacos with a squeeze of lime and Dirty Shirleys on the boardwalk. What’s not to love? Now just imagine that this fun-filled escape isn’t limited to a weekend or two away at the shore. During the worst of COVID-19, many wealthier Americans flocked to the nation’s beaches in search of their own real estate slice of sand and sea, inflating prices along the way. It Just Makes Cents! 7 DIY Home Improvement Projects That Promise Serious ROI

Image
agent top miami real DIY home improvements can be great feel-good projects. You get to learn a new skill, use your hands, and take pride in something you create yourself. But let’s face it: Your DIY project doesn’t make sense if it won’t make cents. In other words, it needs to pay off when it comes time to sell your home. “The key to winning the ROI game with home improvement is to take a less-is-more approach,” says Dan DiClerico, home expert at HomeAdvisor. If your goal is to earn a return on your DIY investment, DiClerico suggests taking on smaller improvements that will have a big impact on buyers. “Bells and whistles tend not to rank high on ROI,” DiClerico says. “The high-tech home theater might mean hours of fun for you and the family, but it’s probably not going to pay for itself when the time comes to sell.” Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t outfit your house with the latest technology—if you’re making an improvement that you’ll love and enjoy, go for it. But

How to Build a House Cheaply: 7 Sneaky Ways to Save on Home Construction

Image
agent top miami real Want to know how to build a house cheaply? That’s understandable, given that the median price of erecting a single-family home is $332,524. That’s more than it costs to buy a house that’s already built. Yet if your heart is set on building your own house from the ground up, rest assured that there are ways to lower the expenses entailed. Here’s some budget advice on how to build a house cheaply. 1. Build up rather than out Start saving on the cost by simplifying the design of your home. Face reality: Building a geodesic dome will clearly cost a lot more than constructing a traditional rectangular box. And the cost lowers further if you opt for a two-story house (or three) over a one-story building of equal square footage, since the foundation of the two-story home will be smaller—and the foundation’s the expensive part. In fact, excavation and foundation work are by far the most expensive aspects of building a home, according to Morgan Franklin of Kentucky’

That’s right—even though you own your house, you still need to get permits for structural changes, to ensure that your changes will be “up to code,” as they say. Before you start grumbling about all this paperwork, keep in mind that the permitting process is put in place by the government to keep you and your family safe. Building permits ensure that your home meets important requirements that minimize fire hazards, structural failure, electrical shock, and other potential health and safety risks. Ready to get your renovation rolling? Here’s everything you need to know about how to get a building permit. Do you need a building permit? Spoiler: You probably do, unless you’re only doing cosmetic interior upgrades, like painting or updating your kitchen faucet.
